The Names Project was a memorial created so that those who died from AIDS would be remembered. Below are some sources that make a connection between the AIDS epidemic and the panel that I have chosen for this project which is about Bobby Orr.
Gay Identity-Related Factors and Sexual Risk Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in San Fransico
Flores, S. A., Mansergh, G., Marks, G., Guzman, R., & Colfax, G. (2009). Gay identity-related factors and sexual risk among men who have sex with men in San Francisco. AIDS Education And Prevention: Official Publication Of The International Society For AIDS Education. http://eds.a.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.gsu.edu/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=4&sid=7a3db852-fe43-4422-a7d9-c5818f6d9bb2%40sessionmgr4007
There are several authors of this article, like Stephen A. Flores who graduated from University of Texas medical school with honors. These authors used evidence like bibliographies and tables to make the relationship between gays and unprotected anal sex. The purpose of this article is to see if gays and unprotected anal sex have any correlation to the aids epidemic, they take in consideration of many factors such as; racial and ethnical differences. In this case, Bobby Orr ethical difference would have been of the Hispanic community. A researcher who is looking for extra data or evidence may be interested in this article. Those who are gay or are interested in anal sex may find this researcher and information useful.
This article is related to Bobby Orr because he was gay and was probably affected by the aids epidemic for this reason. Though it may not be very helpful for him, in this study they are doing this to get a better understanding of the relationship between the two and how they correlate between one another.
Cahill, S., & Valadéz, R. (2013). Growing Older With HIV/AIDS: New Public Health Challenges. American Journal Of Public Health. http://eds.a.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.gsu.edu/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=9&sid=7a3db852-fe43-4422-a7d9-c5818f6d9bb2%40sessionmgr4007
Sean Cahill, Ph.D. is Director of Health Policy Reseach at the Fenway Institute. In this article they are trying to find a way to help prevent aids/ HIV, using long-term antiretroviral. The purpose of this article is to find research that could improve the health outcome for those who are HIV positive because there are some challenges that we have discovered now that we didn’t know during the 1960’s. The intended audience is other researchers who are also trying to improve the health of those who are HIV positive. This information would be useful for someone who found out they have HIV.
This does connect to my article because though Bobby Orr died from aids, he did have some time to grow with it which made a huge impact on his life. This information who have been helpful to Bobby Orr because with this treatment he could have probably lived a long life.
Homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth in New York City: Insights from the field
Ream, G. L., & Forge, N. R. (2014). Homeless Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Youth in New York City: Insights from the Field. Child Welfare http://scholarworks.gsu.edu.ezproxy.gsu.edu/ssw_facpub/61 http://scholarworks.gsu.edu.ezproxy.gsu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1062&context=ssw_facpub
Ream and Forge are the authors of this article and are affiliated with Adelphi University and Georgia Stae University. This article only reviews information that already exists to make the connection of LGBT youth that is homeless in New York City. The purpose of this article is to describe how people who are LGBT have been kicked out of there homes and involved themselves with drug and sexual activities, causing them to get aids/ HIV. The intended audience s from researchers looking for a way to get youth children off of the streets of New York. This information who be helpful for anyone who is interested in doing research on homelessness and LGBT.
This article wasn’t useful for my connection to my artifact. I pursued this article to find more information about the LGBT community in New York of the 1980’s. New York was a visual mode of communication on my panel and I thought making the connection between aids and New York during the 1980’S would help give more information about aids and the LGBT Community.
Recipes for Attention: Policy Reforms, Crises, Organizational Characteristics, and the Newspaper Coverage of the LGBT Movement, 1969–2009
Elliott, T. A., Amenta, E., & Caren, N. (2016). Recipes for Attention: Policy Reforms, Crises, Organizational Characteristics, and the Newspaper Coverage of the LGBT Movement, 1969-2009. Sociological Forum. http://eds.a.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.gsu.edu/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=1&sid=5c91d30e-29ea-4154-b835-206c1d2892f9%40sessionmgr4008
Edwin Amenta is an American socialist known for his study in social policy and social movements. They use qualitative comparison analyses of the national coverage to help appraise their argument. Which would be that media and politics help integrate organizations characteristics and action. In this article, they wanted to understand why the LGBT Comminutiny had such a high impact on this social movement. This article is for researchers interested in social relations and social movements. The information could be useful for anyone who feels left out or neglected by the world and wants to do something positive about it.
This article is very useful for my artifact because it’s obvious that Bobby Orr stood for something, so for him to know that he had all this support and that he wasn’t the only one would have been very empowering. This photo is from the era of limits for the LGBT Community during the 1970’s in Los Angeles. https://www.kcet.org/shows/lost-la/rethinking-the-era-of-limits-
Blair, T. R. (2017). Safe Sex in the 1970s: Community Practitioners on the Eve of AIDS. American Journal Of Public Health. http://eds.a.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.gsu.edu/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=15&sid=7a3db852-fe43-4422-a7d9-c5818f6d9bb2%40sessionmgr4007
The author of this scholarly source is Blair TR, who graduated from the University of California and has a degree in Psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Blair used evidence of developing materials that would help define sexual health education for approximately four decades, to increase safe sex activities. The purpose o this source is to encourage readers to have safer sex. The intended audience of this article come be for researchers who are looking for ways to encourage safe sex or possibly college students. Someone who’s family member who has recently died of aids would possibly be interested in help prevent others from getting aids.
This source connects to my artifact because for Bobby Orr and article like would have been very helpful. Showing and explaining ways to prevent aids/HIV for people just like him. This information who have been helpful to him while he was alive. The photo here just reminds ever one to use protection to prevent not only aids but pregnancy and other possible infections.
